Draw/Paint I & II

 Draw/Paint I & II

IMG_0268.jpg

Don't know how to draw but want to learn? This drawing/painting class is a beginner and intermediate level course, designed for students of various levels. The most important thing to know about this class is that it is skill based, not grade based.

Skill comes with practice, just like learning to drive, or learning how to play a musical instrument.

Students will be taught the various "tricks of the drawing trade" that make drawing easier than it looks.

As a student enrolled in this course, you will explore the basic Elements & Principles of Art, and relate them to the two and three dimensional aspects of drawing. That's because you'll be drawing and painting the 3 dimensional world on a 2 dimensional surface.

Students will be encouraged to develop a personal expression in drawing through the use of different techniques and media. Students will be taught how to see basic shapes in objects, sharpen their senses and train their visual memory.

This class is open to grades 7-12.

Class Assignments

Students will work through different media to improve their skills. We will learn to draw by measurement, grids, photographs and real life; through still life and figure drawing. The drawing skills learned at the beginning of the semester will be used to translate to paint later in the semester.

Use of Media -All materials are included.  A specific media or combination of media will be used for each drawing. I will instruct students to use the media in specific ways through a class demonstration and individualized instruction. These media include drawing pencils, pen and ink, colored pencils, conte crayon, charcoal watercolor and acrylic paint.

Drawing Technique - Students will be taught to complete drawings using a specific drawing technique. Works will be evaluated by critique according to the effectiveness of each particular effort.

Composition Students will learn about placement of the parts of the artwork (elements of art: line, shape, color, value, texture) in the whole space. Use of positive and negative space will be emphasized.

Frequently Asked Questions.jpg

What materials will my child use?

I will introduce many materials over the course of the semester. We have many materials that are always in the classroom and some materials that are brought in occasionally. We use only high quality, artist grade materials. Materials your child will find are acrylic paint, tempera paint, liquid and tube watercolors, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, Inktense pencils, oil pastels, chalk pastels, lino printmaking, gel plate printmaking, clay, Prismacolor colored pencils, Copic markers, Tombow markers, etc.

How does payment work?

A $100 registration fee is collected to secure your child’s spot in class. In August, you will be invoiced for the entire amount of the class, minus the registration fee. You will have a choice to pay in full or be charged monthly. Those that pay in full will receive a 5% discount.

$450 total- $100 registration= $350; $332.50, paid in full or $70 per month

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Unfortunately, no. I often have siblings enrolled in class and the amount lost from discounts would be a significant amount.

How Does the Waitlist work?

During registration, there is a waitlist option once classes are full. YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED TO BE ON THE WAITLIST. If space opens up, students/parents will be contacted in the order they were placed on the list. You will have 24 hours to register before the spot is given to the next person on the list. If classes have not started yet, the $100 registration fee will hold your spot. If classes have already begun, payment will begin immediately.

Cancelled Classes

In the unlikely event I need to cancel a class, such as illness or jury duty, a refund will be issued for each missed class.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given before the start of the 1st class of the semester.  If a student wishes to withdraw within the first 6 weeks of the start of the semester, a 50% refund of the total amount of the class will be given.  If payment is done through auto-pay, payment will continue until 50% of the payment has been made.  After the first 6 weeks, refunds will not be allowed.  This strict policy is due to class size limitations.
