It plays such a large part in my painting process. Songs inspire me, rhythms keep me going, and words sneak their way onto my canvases. Musical tunes have had a relationship in my studio since I picked up a paintbrush. But never have I thought about music and art the way I did today.
I recently finished this piece I have wanted to paint for a long time. If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love to travel. This past fall, my family and I escaped to Baja California for some much need relaxation. From the airplane, you can see where the dry desert land greets the coolness of the ocean.
At the beginning of this year, I decided I was going to create a new color palette each week from which to create new artwork. I really enjoyed this process as it forced me to work with some colors that are not my favorite and just make it work. Like green; I still don't like it very much.
I took to the streets the other day to capture some of the amazing street art that can be found here in Phoenix. I love street art! It is artists coming together to create something beautiful for the city. I just recently started photographing it and I knew that I wanted to show off some of the beautiful murals we have here in Phoenix.
I have been busy in the studio lately, playing with lots of color. Exploration has been my main focus, but sooner or later, whimsy always returns. In this piece, I began by layering the background with lots of vibrant pinks, oranges, and yellows. I really had no direction until I let it rest for a couple of days. Working in this way has been very therapeutic for me. I just let my intuition lead the way.
