Your imagination is probably better,
so you’ll make beautiful things.
— Bob Ross

Welcome to the Art Studio! This class is designed to teach students what it is like to think and work like an artist.

Artists solve problems. Artists play. Artists learn from other artists.

Students will have an assortment of materials with which to create their artwork. These materials include but are not limited to pencils, paint, markers, pastels, cardboard, clay, yarn, canvas, magazines, fabric, and many found objects. While many students like to use the same materials over and over, they will always be exposed to “Mini Bootcamp” lessons on the variety of media available to them. The bootcamps will be demonstrations on how to use different medium. Whether they choose to create artwork in that medium is entirely up to them.

Why choice? Some students simply do not like the feel of clay on their hands. Some love watercolors. When given a choice in the medium they want to work in, students are more likely to focus on the artwork they choose to create.

This class is open to all grades.

Class Assignments

Class assignments will vary according to artistic skill level. Students will be given a list of themes at the beginning of the semester. They will choose a theme, create a plan in which to create their artwork and choose their media. Students with higher skill levels will be given more open ended themes or choose their own themes. They will also complete their materials experiment from the “mini bootcamp” lesson in their visual journals.

Use of Media All materials are included. A specific media or combination of media will be used for each project. I will instruct students to use the media in specific ways through a class demonstration, but they will be allowed to choose the media they envision for their artwork.

Each week through their “bootcamp” lessons, they will be exposed to different artists and their medium of choice.

Composition Students will learn about placement of the parts of the artwork (elements of art: line, shape, color, value, texture) in the whole space. Use of positive and negative space will be emphasized.

Frequently Asked Questions.jpg

What materials will my child use?

I will introduce many materials over the course of the semester. We have many materials that are always in the classroom and some materials that are brought in occasionally. We use only high quality, artist grade materials. Materials your child will find are acrylic paint, tempera paint, liquid and tube watercolors, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, Inktense pencils, oil pastels, chalk pastels, lino printmaking, gel plate printmaking, clay, Prismacolor colored pencils, Copic markers, Tombow markers, etc.

How does payment work?

A $100 deposit is collected to secure your child’s spot in class. In August, you will be invoiced for the entire amount of the class, minus the registration fee. You will have a choice to pay in full or be charged monthly. Those that pay in full will receive a 5% discount.

$550 total- $100 registration= $450; $427.50, paid in full or $90 per month

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Unfortunately, no. I often have siblings enrolled in class and the amount lost from discounts would be a significant amount.

How Does the Waitlist work?

During registration, there is a waitlist option once classes are full. YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED TO BE ON THE WAITLIST. If space opens up, students/parents will be contacted in the order they were placed on the list. You will have 24 hours to register before the spot is given to the next person on the list. If classes have not started yet, the registration fee will hold your spot. If classes have already begun, payment will begin immediately.

Cancelled Classes

In the unlikely event I need to cancel a class, such as illness or jury duty, a refund will be issued for each missed class.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given before the start of the 1st class of the semester.  If a student wishes to withdraw within the first 6 weeks of the start of the semester, a 50% refund of the total amount of the class will be given.  If payment is done through auto-pay, payment will continue until 50% of the payment has been made.  After the first 6 weeks, refunds will not be allowed.  This strict policy is due to class size limitations.
